Dr. Yemisi Akinbobola

Dr. Yemisi Akinbobola is an award-winning media scholar, journalist, and advocate for gender equality in and through media. She is the Co-founder & CEO of African Women in Media (AWiM), a global network of 35,000+ driving structural change in media industries.

A CNN African Journalist Award winner and one of the 100 Most Influential African Women (2021), her leadership has shaped key policies, including the Kigali Declaration and UNESCO/AU’s Lusaka Declaration on Press Freedom. As an Associate Professor at Birmingham City University (UK), Dr. Akinbobola continues to advance research, policy, and advocacy for women’s rights and representation in media worldwide.
