Richard “Fuse ODG” Abiona

Fuse ODG is another artiste that features prominently in the list of the top 10 popular Ghanaian music artistes. Regarded as the pioneer of the azonto style, fuse odg single handedly made azonto an international hit. Initially, the song ‘azonto’ was not such a popular hit but after the release of its video, it gained massive popularity internationally more so in the UK.

Some of the recent songs he has released are Mary Mary featuring Big Narstie, Diary featuring Tiwa Savage, and Boa Me featuring Ed Sheeran and Mugeez. In 2018, he released Feels like Home with Sigala and Sean Paul featuring Kent Jones.

 

Gregory “King Promise” Bortey

King promise whose real name is Gregory Bortey Newman is making a name for himself
in the Ghanaian music scene, with a music focused on hiphop, R & B, highlife and Afro beats. Signed to Legacy Life Entertainment, his music has seen him feature A-list artists list Mr. Eazi, R2Bees.

He has a retinue of hit tracks with huge following offline and online. Some of his songs that lit the Ghanian music scene in between 2017 and 2018 include CCTV, Abena, and Tokyo. In 2018, King promise was awarded the best male vocalist of the year at the Ghana Music Awards UK.

 

Kuami Eugene

Kuami is taking the Ghanaian music industry by storm. 2018 was a great music year for Kuami, who rose to fame as the third runner-up in the music talent show MTN Hitmaker – Season 5. Kuami is signed to Lynxx entertainment, and his talent is evident in his ability to sing, rap and play the instruments. His song, Angela, topped the Sound City top 10 Ghana music chart in November 2018. He collaborated with Davido to release the hit track Meji Meji.  His songs that captured the Ghanaian music scene in 2018 include Confusion, Wish me well, Angela, and Meji Meji.

He is a multi-award winning artist; winning the AFRIMA awards for most promising artist in 2018, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for best new artist, and the Ghana Music Awards UK for Best New Artiste.

 

Dennis “Kidi” Dwamena

Kidi rose to face after winning the MTN Hit Maker 2015 music talent show. After winning, he signed for Lynxx entertainment, and released his first official single titled ‘Naadu’. Kidi took made his mark in the Ghanaian music scene with hit singles Say You Love Me, and Odo which featured Davido and Mayorkun.

Kidi’s rise to fame saw him win the highlife song of the year at the 2018 Vodacom Ghana Music Awards.

 

Michael “Sarkodie” Addo

Sarkodie Undoubtedly tops the list of top 10 popular Ghanaian music artistes. Born as Michael Owusu in 1988, Sarkodie is not only the leading hip life and hip hop artiste in Ghana but also a brand ambassador. Sarkodie is the grandfather of freestyle in Ghana and usually prefers to rap in his mother tongue Twi in most of his songs.

Sarkodie as a rapper is a strong campaigner for growth and development in Ghana with most of his societal engagements tailored mostly towards the safety and better conditions that can bring out the best out of the Ghanaian youth.

Sarkodie’s fifth studio album, Highest, was released on September 8, 2017. It comprises 19 songs, including 3 interludes and a bonus track.Released through Sarkcess Music and Dice Recordings, the album features guest appearances from Jesse Jagz, Moelogo, Flavour, Korede Bello, Victoria Kimani and Big Narstie.

In 2018, Sarkodie was named in the Forbes 30 under 30 for Africa.
